5. Dawn It's a new day. Dawn breaks, crossing an array of silicon shards in space. The light, quantized and filtered, finds it way down to a thousand or so breathless fetuses, the victims of past ambition, future revelation, and present blindness. Unknown to man and machine, a humble shortcoming of the goal of perfection metamorphoses into in a leak from a copper pipe, which now drips with increasing intensity onto a supply of oxygen, some distant being's only hope for life. He lies in a tank, brain alive and body dead, walking without walking, talking without talking, and thinking without thinking. He awakes. The sky cracks, and he sinks through the ground, plummeting to the underworld that his body knows but his mind fails to recognize. The tank opens up as he comes up for air, knowing now what it looks like to see and what it feels like to feel. The cameras and machines exchange a few synapses, something about an open door, but nothing about the biological creature that once created them, now emerging in the flesh. The dust on the lenses is too thick for that. But now he emerges, gazing for a few seconds at the faint gold ray that diffuses throught the hallway just as it always did. He loses control. Some line used to restrain the part of his mind that would have striven for freedom is snapped, as if it were a vine springing from a tank of water whose content was poisoned with the seed of knowledge. Some serum of tranquility that has been continuously pumped into his veins since he was born is no longer there. Passion and curiousity, viral in nature, urge him to move on, to change, to grow beyond the restrains of this mechanical wasteland. He is dangerous, he is abnormal, and he is intoxicated with freedom. He is human. 7. Landslide Skipping stones to start a landslide No guilty feelings on the inside Turning heads to count them all yours The magic works behind closed doors Everything you say There can be no other way Open up your mind but not to everything you hear When you find yourself On the highest shelf Then this world is not uncertain anymore Everything you say There can be no other way Open up your mind but not to everything When you give up your soul Forfeit your control Then this world is not uncertain anymore Then your thoughts are not uncertain anymore Then your words are not uncertain anymore Everything you say There can be no other way Open up your mind but not to everything you hear When you find yourself On the highest shelf Then this world is not uncertain anymore 11. Strife High strung, dry tongue, never live without a doubt Confused, but there's nothing left to figure out The noise of the strife resounding in my ears The joys of my life, they glisten in my tears I came here thinking you could help me out I came here thinking there was more than doubt And all I need to hear is anything I can do To try to close the distance between me and you But it's over as quickly as you say it And there's no way I ever can repay it Because it's close to the things that you keep covered But I won't do the same for any other High strung, dry tongue, never live without a doubt You've got the same but you put something different out And now you won't accept a single thing I do Is it because I've always done the same to you I came here thinking you could help me out I came here thinking there was more than doubt And all I need to hear is anything I can do To try to close the distance between me and you But it's over as quickly as you say it And there's no way I ever can repay it Because it's close to the things that you keep covered But I won't do the same for any other To satisfy your anger I'll tell you why I never Told you what was happening I was afraid you'd judge me I thought you wouldn't love me But now I know that's not the case
